Kenya’s strides toward economic recovery after the pandemic
Kenya’s GDP is projected to grow by 4.5 percent in 2021, signaling a partial recovery from the COVID-19 crisis causing growth to stall in 2020. Economic activity is estimated to accelerate to above 5% in 2022 and 2023, according to the latest World Bank analysis. The African Development Bank explains that expansionary fiscal, monetary, and financial policy measures were introduced to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on businesses and households, and inflation is expected to ease to 5.1% because of lower aggregate demand. However, the AFDB Group considers that the growth outlook is positive and the economy is projected to grow by up to 5.9% in 2022, but the rebound assumes that economic activity will normalize after a full reopening of the economy. Kenya was ranking #56 in the World Bank’s 2020 Ease of Doing Business index (Sources: One, World Bank and AFDB).
